Helping Haiti

With tragedy comes opportunists. The devastation of the Haiti earthquake has also unearthed con artists. Please research before you give to any organizations or websites, to ensure your donations are put in the correct hands. Below are links to my recommendations:

~ Haitian native and musician Wyclef Jean has set up a YELE Haiti Earthquake Fund. By texting the word YELE to 501501, your cell phone will be charged a $5 donation, with 100% of the proceeds going to the fund. To date, $1 million has already been raised. If you'd like to give more, you can click here.

~ The American Red Cross is the go-to organization when disaster strikes. And while they stress they are not accepting volunteers to travel to Haiti, your minimum donation of $10 will go directly to emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

  1. There is some talk that Wyclef's charity has been skimming cash from his charity since at least 2006, so I would proceed with caution on that

  2. I read the article about Wyclef on the Smoking Gun's website, which is why I encourage anyone to investigate beforehand ANY corporation they send money to. I am not in the position to say he is or is not guilty.

All I know is that he is a Haitian who has been doing good for his people, way before the earthquake.
